There
are 5 different categories for plays:
BEGINNER
PLAYS – Designed for 5 to 10 year olds, these
plays are written to introduce basic performing skills and to give little
actors a fun first experience on the stage. Each play has up to 25 parts
and heaps of group/chorus action
JUNIOR
PLAYS – Each play deals with themes drawn
from well-known sources (songs, rhymes, etc.) and generally contain
25 individual character parts plus Chorus parts. The format is usually
flexible and the characters provide a great deal of scope for individual
interpretation
SENIOR
PLAYS – Geared toward the Middle and Senior
school year levels, each play usually has 25 substantial parts (plus
Chorus) and touches on some challenging dramatic areas. Usually comic,
the plays provide a great opportunity for large group performances on
contemporary and enjoyable themes
SCHOOL
PRODUCTIONS – Shows with large casts, funny
scripts and some are even musicals, ideally suited to a school production
or youth theatre tour
SKILLS-BASED
& THEATRICAL GENRE PLAYS – written to
compliment a performing arts development course, each play focuses on
a specific dramatic skill (diction, caricature, improvisation, etc.)
or on a specific theatrical period. From the Greeks to Brecht, each
play provides a practical application of dramatic theory and/or skill
in a fun setting and with interesting characters
