- How We Work Out The Cost -
If you are a little bamboozled as to how all of the pricing works, here
are a few explanations which may help
Royalties Fees
As authors and composers occasionally eat, they depend
upon earnings from the performance of original works as their income.
These payments are called Royalties and are applicable to any public
performance, be that for a paying audience or a non-ticketed school
classroom
Non-Ticketed Performance Royalties are fees due where the audience
is not paying to see the play
Ticketed Performance Royalties are fees due where the audience
has paid to see the play. In these cases the Australian Writer’s
Guild recommends whichever is greater of (1) a base minimum
fee or (2) 10% of Gross Box Office Earnings
(both GST inc)
If the play is only a percentage of the programme, then the fee is adjusted
accordingly
Initial Script & Script Levies
According to Australian Writers’ Guild guidelines, each performer
needs to purchase a script (or have paid a nominated amount to copy
a script). A Script Levy is the cost of purchasing the script –
sort of like buying a book. You may opt to have us send you a Bound
Copy by mail or an E-Version (particularly if you are ordering a
Photocopy Deal). The price of the initial script includes GST and
Postage & Handling by our office staff. Subsequent Script Levies
vary according to the cast size, size of the play and if you qualify
for a Photocopy Deal
Photocopy Deal Cost
Grumpy Cat’s Special Photocopy Deal is for any productions which
take place in an ‘Educational Context’. Instead of each
cast member having to purchase a script, we charge your organisation
$2.20 per character in the play (inc GST) and send you one
script (e-mail or regular mail) which you can photocopy as
many times as you like for the duration of the nominated rehearsal and
performance season. Where the play has a variable number of characters,
a median number is chosen. This is easier for us and works out a great
deal cheaper for you!
Note: ‘Educational Context’
refers to a non-commercial & non-ticketed educational institution
(such as a school), non-ticketed Theatre-In-Education performances,
or non-ticketed Community Theatre Group performances
Remember, all of the works in the Grumpy Catalogue are covered by copyright,
both in Australia and internationally. As such, Royalties and Script
Levies (Photocopy Fees) need to be paid for each and every
performance (unless otherwise stated in a prepaid package deal)
