'A CHRISTMAS CAROL'

Scene – England in 1800s


Narrator: Jacob Marley was dead…
Chorus: (Loud at first, then fading to a whisper) Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead.
Narrator: Seven years dead on that Christmas Eve. Ebenezer Scrooge, his living partner, never painted out old Marley's name on their sign. There it stood years afterward -
Chorus: 'Scrooge & Marley, Counting House'.
(The Chorus form a street scene and Scrooge arrives to stand in downstage centre)
Narrator: Scrooge was tight-fisted.
Chorus: (Broken up and said by section of the Chorus) A squeezing… grasping… covetous…
Narrator: …old sinner. No wind blew that was bitterer than he. Nobody ever stopped him on the streets to say…
Chorus Member: (Greeting Scrooge) My dear Scrooge, when will you come for dinner?
Narrator: But what did Scrooge care? He edged his way along the crowded paths of life, warning all human sympathy to…

Taking the classic Dickens Tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and adapting it to suit a full class size, this re-telling is pacy, provides great scope for visual Chorus work and has relatively even parts so as all of the young performers can have a go. No Humbug!
