'THIRTEEN YEARS'

Scene – at the Year 12 Break-Up Party after their last day of school

Bianca: It's getting kind of hot in there.
Sheena: Especially over where Nick is standing.
Shae: You can't be serious – Nick Hogarth?
Sheena: What's wrong with him?
Shae: He's Nick who split his pants, remember?
Alissa: That was like in Year 8. It's funny how you get remembered for something so stupid.
Shae: I wonder what I'll be remembered for?
(The scene momentarily stops. Several of the characters step forward and deliver a brief monologue to the audience.)
Alissa: There she is – Alissa the kisser. The girl who pashed with almost every boy in Year 9. I haven't even dated in three years but I'll still always be Alissa the kisser.
Bianca: I'll be the girl who never had a boyfriend.
Sheena: I'm the girl who lost all that weight – the girl who people looked at like she was some sort of freak. I've been a stable weight for a long while now. But people don't remember you if you look normal. They only remember you when you aren't.
Shae: Shae? Oh wasn't she that girl whose parents weren't divorced? It's like not being in an exclusive club. "I was at my step-dad's on the weekend…" or "I've got four sets of grandparents who each gave me $50 for my birthday". Well I've got only two grandparents left, one mum, one dad and no step-anythings. But I still feel like a freak.
Sally, Vanessa, Belinda, Katie & Jess: (Speaking in unison) I don't even think that people will remember me.
Vanessa: They'll remember Camille.
Belinda: Who could forget her?
Katie: She's smart…
Jess: She wears really expensive clothes…
Sally: And she says what she thinks, even if it hurts.
Belinda: Which it mostly does.
Jess: I can't afford her clothes.
Katie: I'm not as smart as she is.
Belinda: I care too much about how other people feel.
Vanessa: I'm a sheep.
Sally, Vanessa, Belinda, Katie & Jess: People will remember Camille.
Vanessa: All I'll be is her shadow.
